Frequently Asked Questions
Logistics
What is Quickload?
Here.
Where does the Quickload happen? Do I need to move to Italy?
Quickload is based in Turin, Italy. We give office space to the selected startups and we require at least one member of the team to be in Turin during the 6-months acceleration period. Everyone of the team can participate remotely at all the activities we organize.
Why do you require physical presence?
Quickload is devoted to create a strong community of gaming entrepreneurs and to achieve this, sharing the office with the other startups creates a lot of opportunities for contamination of ideas and bond creation between founders. Plus, OGR Torino, the innovation hub Quickload is in, has a very valuable community that can be accessed only by being here physically.
How do we choose which gaming startups to accelerate?
We have an admissions process that’s open to any gaming startup, in the EFTA+UK zone. You can apply here.
Do you invest?
We provide some funds to cover living expenses for the members that get physically to Turin.
What can I use the funds for?
You can use the funds we provide for anything that you believe helps your business. In most cases, we expect you to use those funds to live in Turin for the 6-month acceleration period.
What do you get in return?
Quickload has a standard deal. We get a percentage of the increase in revenue that your company will have for a number of subsequent years after you went through the acceleration program.
What is the time commitment of Quickload?
It is less than most gaming founders expect. Quickload host a few hours per week of activities. All parts of the program are optional. We expect you to choose how to spend your time to maximize the odds of your gaming company succeeding.
Some founders worry that Y combinator will be a distraction from working on their game project or company. Actually, it’s the opposite. The goal of Quickload is to let founders spend several months completely focused on their startup with no distractions.
Do we need to be incorporated to apply?
No, you can incorporate after the selection process. We won’t be able to give you the funds until you incorporate.
What are the dates for the next batch?
Our next batch will run from December 2022 to June 2023.
Should I apply?
Am I too early to apply to Quickload? Should I wait until I have a better prototype, more traction, etc?
No, it would be a mistake to wait to apply. Our selection process is based on the team rather than the startup they are working on. Therefore, even an amazing team with an idea can be selected.
We recommend applying for Quickload as soon as you have a founding team and an idea for a game or a service you are excited about.
We‘ve already been working on our startup for a while. Is Quicklaod appropriate for us?
Yes. While the majority of the Quickload batch is pre-revenue companies, we are equipped to assist also companies that are already generating revenue.
When we fund companies that are further along, we work with them differently and help them with different things compared to early-stage startups.
We‘ve already raised funding. Can we still apply?
Sure. We will be able to help on all the post-funding activities.
Do you only select startups that create games?
No, we’ll consider every gaming startups whether they are building a game, game tech or any kind of service around gaming. We adapt our support depending on the gaming startup that we select in each batch.
Can a single person apply for Quickload?
Yes. We accept solo founders. That said, our advice remains that one-person gaming startups are tough and you’re more likely to succeed with a co-founder.
I have a great idea for a startup, but I‘m not technical. Will you still fund me?
It’s important for the founding team to have the skills to build their product themselves, rather than outsourcing it to someone else. For most businesses, that usually means you need a technical co-founder.
Can I participate in Quickload while I’m a full-time student or working full-time at a job?
You can certainly apply when you are a full-time student or employee, but we expect the founders to commit to working full-time on their company during the batch and afterwards if accepted. Plus, you will miss many activities if you have another job.
Quickload has already selected a company that does something similar to my idea in the past. Will that affect my chances of being accepted?
It won’t. Even if we tried not to accept competing companies, we’d end up with them anyway because gaming startup ideas are very volatile.
Can we apply more than once?
Yes. If you’ve applied before and not gotten in, we strongly encourage you to apply again. Having made progress since your last application is a strong signal to us.
Do we need to know someone at Quickload to get in?
No. We don’t rely on introductions the way many investors do. We look at each application equally.
If we participated in another accelerator, can we do Quickload?
Yes. We’ve had companies join Quickload after doing another accelerator. However, if you’ve done another accelerator already, we may expect that you’ve reached a higher level of progress.
